LYNNE WALDEN, born 1938 in South East London, evacuated during the war, then returned to continue education at local Grammar School. Trained at Kings College Hospital as a state registered nurse. Married in 196.J and had 3 children only attempts at drawing were silly sketches and poems to amuse the children.
Whilst the children were growing up I worked at various times as a night-nurse on Maternity, was driver for a team of leaflet distributors, delivered wallpaper and paint, gardening and shop work, all to help the family finances. I divorced my husband in 1986 and much of my early work reflected my mood at this time.
I started sketching in 1985 following an operation, after which I had to take life easy for a while. My daughter said "To keep me out of mischief whilst she was out at work" Also wrote poems to accompany some of the pictures. I joined an Art Club in 1992 where we had a different subject each week to try and draw. I have also worked from photographs and managed to produce some pictures which have sold at our twice yearly exhibitions. I have worked for a Sub-Post Office for 17 years and have tried to illustrate my "life as a Post-Office Clerk" I often paint pictures out of my head, whether they are memories or fantasies I do not know, but these are my contribution to Naive art.
