Born in Halifax, West
Yorkshire in 1941, Frank Bentley became an apprenticed electrician when he left
school at the age of 15. After nearly 20 years in the trade he drifted into the
antiques business in 1975, running his own shop

until 1980.
He began painting seriously in 1982, and throughout the last 20
years he has exhibited regularly, and widely, throughout the United Kingdom.
Frank is self-taught, like all the other fellow Naives on MisterDenham.com. He
works in acrylics, which he mixes with a fine-textured decorators' material.
This imparts a matt/chalk-like surface finish to his paintings, similar in some
respects to dried oils.
Frank's themes range
from coastal and harbour scenes to landscapes and still life. His work bears
all the compositional originality and freshness of vision, so typical of the
Naive eye, but frequently on a scale which is suprisingly large.
